Where do I fit in best?
What camp session is for me? Read carefully the descriptions below of each camp. The main goals of this camp are:
The main goals of this camp are:
- Ability to play comfortably with other players, even if only at slow speeds with easy chords (Maintaining a roll while playing is an achievable goal); and
- Ability to create a solo to a simple bluegrass song (one whose melody you can hum or pick out on the banjo).
Intermediate · January 12-17, 2009
Intermediate camp qualifications are:
- Ability to jam informally and follow chord changes.
- Ability to create on your own and correctly execute, in time, a simple bluegrass banjo solo, based on a melody.
Advanced · January 19-24, 2009
Advanced camp qualifications are somewhat hard to define, but are based on experience and attitude. The camp is intended for serious players who have been members of bluegrass bands. A basic knowledge of Scruggs style and repertoire is expected, and it is assumed that all players have a sizable repertoire, having been in at least one performing band.
Applicants are encouraged to submit a recording (homemade OK, but band CD preferable) that includes their playing, or at least a brief letter explaining their qualifications and interests.
