Ask Dr. Banjo: Practicing & "noodling" January 29, 2003 << General >> Zach from Colorado writes: I'm afraid my practice sessions haven't been as structured as I'd intended, always seeming to drift off toward "noodling". Zach, Noodling can be good as a way of taking a mental break while keeping your hands on the instrument, making friendly sounds. But I recommend having specific short-term goals, and keeping a written list of them in your case for ready reference. After you notice you've been noodling for ten minutes, you're probably ready to re-focus on some exercise you've named on your short-term goal list. Have fun, Pete Ask Dr. Banjo was created to encourage banjo education. Please feel free to contact me (Pete@DrBanjo.com) with any questions, and Ill try to answer it on the next Ask Dr. Banjo. Also, check out the additional instructional material available on the site.
