- Thorough knowledge of bluegrass music and the bluegrass community thanks to years as bluegrass d.j., concert promoter, songwriter and publisher, agent and manager, conducting in-depth interviews with numerous top bluegrass singers and instrumentalists since 1964.
- Attended the first bluegrass festival, Fincastle, VA, 1965, and hundreds since.
- Formed, directed, and presented two history-making youth bluegrass groups, 1993 (w. Thile, Cleveland, Kilby, J. Williams) and 2003 (w. Jarosz, S. Hull, C. Walker)
