John Karsemeyer has been actively participating in bluegrass jams all over California for twenty years. He plays and teaches guitar, banjo, fiddle, and mandolin, both privately and through the Sonoma Valley Adult School . His stints with bluegrass bands in the San Francisco Bay Area have included The Valley of the Moonshiners, Meadow Muffin, The Hicktones, and currently the Sonoma Mountain Band, which he founded. He is a member of the California Bluegrass Association, and currently is a “Welcome Columnist” for their publication

  • Easy 2- and 3-chord songs, slow speeds.
  • Soloing not required! "Faking" solos taught.

If you play guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, bass, or dobro... you can be part of a bluegrass jam.

Only requirements:

  • You must be able to tune your instrument (electronic tuning devices welcome) and
  • change smoothly between G, C, D, and A. (Fiddles and basses need to know which notes work with which chords)
